When a named beneficiary to a will or trust dies before the testator does, the property will go to the deceased beneficiary’s family

Per Stirpes Distribution

Under a per stirpes distribution, if one of the testator’s named beneficiaries dies before the testator, the share of the testator’s estate will pass to the beneficiary’s descendants, such as the beneficiaries children.
