Divorce court orders carry the force of law and if not complied with can result in criminal contempt

A divorce court order is a judicial directive issued by a judge ordering an individual to do something or be prohibited from doing something. The person or entity who knowingly disobeys a court order can be held in contempt of court and face a fine and or incarceration.

Examples Of Divorce Court Orders:

  • Restraining orders
  • Child custody orders
  • Child support orders
  • Restitution orders
  • Stay-away orders
  • Marital support orders.

Note: Orders that are injunctive in nature, such as child support orders are usually incorporated into the court’s final divorce decree.
