A subpoena is a legal and official written order to compel a person to attend an official hearing and give sworn testimony under oath and, if also ordered, to produce records and documents to the hearing

Like a warrant, a subpoena is an official document that carries the full force of a judicial order. To willfully disobey a lawfully issued subpoena is to risk exposing oneself to being held in contempt of court.
