Hostile Workplace

« Back to Glossary Index

In sexual harassment discrimination cases a hostile workplace is one in which the work environment is sexually charged by hostile and offensive remarks, sexual innuendo, and discriminatory practices

The workplace should not be a place to tell sexual jokes, make sexual advances, comment about how sexy a co-worker looks, or engage in nonconsensual touching.

Harassment does not have to be specifically sexual or direct. It can take the form of rude remarks concerning the gender of the employee, also known as gender stereotyping.
