The legal status of being authorized to work and remain in the U.S. indefinitely

Notes:

Obtaining permanent resident status grants the person the legal right to live in the United States indefinitely. This does not mean the person has been granted U.S. Citizenship. A permanent resident must still have legal citizenship in another country.
