A civil wrong resulting in injury or damage

The party who sues for tort injuries is called the plaintiff. The person being sued by the injured party is called the defendant. There are also business torts, such as civil business fraud. Most tort cases are prosecuted by personal injury attorneys.

Compensation for torts includes economic damages, general damages, and under specific types of pernicious conduct, punitive damages.

Examples of Common Torts

Defamation (Tortious Injury To Reputation)

Medical Malpractice  (Doctor removes the wrong organ)

Traffic Accidents  (Car, truck, and pedestrian accidents)

Product Liability (defective product or defective design causing injury)

Premise Liability  (Dangerous condition on the property of another causing injury)

Slip and Fall  (Shopper slips on fluid that was not cleaned by the store in a reasonable time)

Landlord Liability  (Landlord does not eradicate Bedbugs from premises)
