Sworn testimony of a witness at an official proceeding is made under penalty of perjury

Answering questions truthfully at trial, or at a duly noticed deposition, under oath, and in connection with a civil, criminal, or administrative proceeding. Committing perjury at such hearings is a criminal offense.

Federal Penalty For Committing Perjury

A person convicted of perjury under federal law can face up to five years in federal prison and fines. (18 U.S.C. § 1621.)
