Each state must recognize the orders and decrees issued by other state divorce courts

The U.S. Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution requires each state to honor all other state judicial proceedings’ public orders, acts, and records.

There are exceptions to the rule, such as same-sex marriages. Not all states are willing to follow other state laws when it specifically violates their statute. This issue has been heavily litigated over the past ten years.
