The sodomy law defines certain sexual acts as crimes
In some states, sodomy laws relate to what is considered “unnatural” sexual intercourse, such as anal intercourse, oral copulation, or sexual acts between same-sex partners.
Many of these laws come from 17th-century colonial America.
Most states have repealed their sodomy laws only to substitute them with what they now call unnatural or perverted sexual practices laws. Sometimes criminal prosecutors will include such criminal counts when charging rape or sexual battery.
