Social Security Disability claims are for people who cannot work due to a medical disability

Social Security pays benefits to people who cannot work because they have a medical condition expected to last over one year or result in the applicant’s death.

Federal law requires a strict definition of disability. While some government programs offer money to people with partial disability or short-term disability, Social Security does not.

It is no secret that while the Social Security program makes the process of obtaining benefits appear straightforward, what they do not disclose is that almost all applicants are denied the first time around.

There is good reason to get discouraged. The application and approval process is fraught with obstacles rather than clear pathways to solutions.

Make sure you consult with a social security disability lawyer who can guide you through the application process and assist you in filing and presenting your disability claim.

You can purchase private partial or complete disability coverage from an insurance company, and while expensive, it can be a tremendous help if you become disabled and can no longer work.
