Divorce mediation is also called alternative dispute resolution
Mediation is a way for divorcing parties to resolve their differences without going through the anguish and expense of litigation and trial. Mediation can be a highly effective path towards early resolution of the divorce.
The mediator will focus on working with each of the two lawyers so everyone is on track and working towards the same goal – to resolve the matter peacefully and equitably. If the parties come to a mutually acceptable resolution, a divorce settlement agreement will be drafted by the lawyers and will be submitted to the court for final approval and then incorporated into the court’s order of dissolution.
The mediator’s fees can range from $250 per hour up to $700 per hour or more, depending on the mediator’s jurisdiction, expertise, and reputation.
