Defective products violate safety standards or are unreasonably dangerous for their intended use

A defective product is one in which the performance does not meet consumer safety standards or is considered unreasonably dangerous for its intended use. If an injured party can prove the product was defective the law may apply strict liability against both the manufacturer and other sellers of the product.

The laws governing product liability can be found in state statutes as well as in the Uniform Commercial Code.
