Cybercrimes are committed on the Internet or similar forms of technology such as online social media or email are used to commit the crime. This includes sexting and other sexually explicit transmissions over the Internet.

Although cybercrime is now the most common platform for criminal activity. The most common forms of cybercrime include online harassment, identity theft, fraud, phishing scams, and email fraud. Ransomware is a form of extortion and is quickly becoming a leading crime in the war against cybercrime.

A Whole-Of-Government Response To Cyber Crime

The FBI is the lead federal enforcement agency for investigating cyber attacks and intrusions through the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force. The NCIJTF is made up of over 30 partnering agencies from across federal and state law enforcement, the intelligence community, and the Department of Defense.
