Casket also called a coffin has been the traditional mode of encasing the deceased for a memorial service

If the deceased is not buried, it is cremated along with the encasement. The casket has come to represent sanctified encasement. The distinguishing feature between a casket and a coffin is that the coffin is wider at the shoulder area. In contrast, a casket is more rectangular without outward or inner curves at the feet or shoulders.
