Med-Pay

« Back to Glossary Index

Med-Pay is added car insurance that pays for the driver’s and occupant’s medical bills resulting from a motor vehicle accident up to a limited amount

Med-Pay covers all medical costs up to the Med-Pay amount purchased by the insured regardless of which party in the accident was at fault. Med-Pay only covers injuries directly caused by a personal injury motor vehicle accident.
The sole purpose of Med-Pay is the payment of medical bills. It expressly excludes property damage.

Should you be denied coverage under Med-Pay from your own insurance company, it may constitute unfair insurance claims practices and entitle you to recover damages from your insurance company. This is known as first-party bad faith. Also, Med-Pay premiums are not expensive and are usually a good idea to consider purchasing if you do not have adequate health insurance.
