In divorce, the parties can be granted sole or joint legal custody of their children
Legal custody is often the sole domain of one parent who will exercise all legal authority over their child’s welfare.
In joint legal custody, both parents share the authority to make major and long-term decisions over their children.
In sole legal custody, this authority is not shared with the other spouse. The parent with legal authority will make all decisions including whether the child goes to a public school, or private school, types of after-school activities, attend summer camp, receive religious training, and all medical decisions.
